PROFESSIONAL FAQS: DOES APPLE CIDER VINEGAR LOWER CHOLESTEROL?

Expert opinion from Drew Hemler

There is little evidence to suggest that apple cider vinegar can lower blood cholesterol. Studies that have reported this effect included dietary interventions (decreased calorie, increased fiber) other than regular consumption of apple cider vinegar, in addition to increased physical activity. Lowering blood cholesterol can be achieved by reducing saturated fat intake, eliminating trans fat intake, increasing omega 3 fatty acid intake, and increasing soluble fiber intake. Medications are also available to help lower blood cholesterol.

No, apple cider vinegar does not help lower cholesterol. Eating a healthy diet with lean protein, healthy fat sources, whole grains, and fiber may help to lower your cholesterol. Limit high fat animal protein sources, high fat dairy products, and saturated/trans fat.

It might lower cholesterol. The same study which demonstrated ACV increased weight loss also discovered that it reduced the total cholesterol levels of study subjects who took it. It also increased their good cholesterol and reduced levels of triglycerides.
