MARRIED AT FIRST SIGHT'S MEL SCHILLING SHARES EMOTIONAL STORY OF HOW SHE TOLD NINE-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER MADDIE ABOUT HER CANCER DIAGNOSIS

Mel Schilling has bravely opened up about her battle with cancer, sharing the poignant moment she told her nine-year-old daughter Maddie about the diagnosis.

The beloved Married At First Sight expert, 52, revealed late last year that she had been diagnosed with colon cancer and subsequently underwent surgery to remove a tumour she nicknamed 'Terry'.

In an interview with OK! magazine, Mel explained that Maddie has a 'nine-year-old's version' of understanding what cancer means and its implications.

'She knows I'm having chemo and she knows that when I have an infusion, I'll be tired and need extra cuddles, which she is there for,' Mel said, highlighting her daughter's supportive and nurturing nature.

'She understands it in her own way.'

Mel's journey has not been solitary. She spoke warmly of her husband, describing him as her 'rock' during this challenging period.

'He's gone through his own tough year as he's had grief in his life, but has still been there for me,' she revealed, expressing gratitude for his unwavering support.

Earlier this year, Mel gave an update on her condition during an interview with Magic FM, candidly discussing her experience with chemotherapy.

'Feeling a little flat today actually, to be totally honest with you,' she said, describing the effects of her treatment.

'I'm going through chemo, I'm on my third cycle now and I'm just starting to feel a bit sick. I was saying earlier it sort of feels like being hungover, like I've been drinking all night.'

The reality TV host revealed her shock health battle in December and underwent colon surgery just before the end of the year.

She explained that her tumour - which she has named 'Terry' - was removed by UK doctors.

However, as the cancer spread through her colon into the muscle, Mel discovered she needed chemotherapy and began treatment at the end of February.
