The time frame of orthodontic treatment with braces depends on a variety of factors, including how complex the orthodontic issues are, the kind of braces used, the patient's age, and how effectively the patient follows the orthodontist's instructions. Traditional braces can be worn for about a year to three years on average, although individual treatment timeframes can vary. Putting on braces takes roughly as long as watching a movie. So, it takes between one and two hours. Depending on the condition of your teeth and the type of braces, the process of getting braces may require one or two appointments.

How long does it take to put braces on one's teeth?

Expert opinion from Dr. Alan Thomas Charly
MBBS · 1 years of experience · India

Depending on the type of braces being used and the patient's dental health, the braces placement procedure usually takes one to two hours. The teeth are cleaned and dried first in the process. The brackets are then affixed to each tooth using an adhesive. The orthodontist inserts the brackets and threads the archwire through them. Over time, this wire will exert pressure on the teeth to gradually move them into the appropriate locations. The archwire is then secured to the brackets with elastic bands, also known as ligatures. Although the operation is usually painless, the patient may feel some pressure or discomfort throughout the process. The orthodontist will arrange follow-up appointments for modifications and offer maintenance instructions following the braces' installation.
