The symptoms of severe dehydration usually include extreme thirst, marked fatigue, lightheadedness, decreased urine output, and very dark yellow urine. However, older adults who become dehydrated don't always complain of thirst. Even in a younger person, if the dehydration is so severe that it is causing confusion, they might not recognize thirst or be able to describe the other symptoms.
