The most common causes of sensitive teeth are severe attrition of the teeth due to teeth grinding or bruxism, dental cavities of the teeth, gum recessions, dental tooth erosions due to gastric reflex, acidic or carbonated foods.
Sensitivity is usually triggered by dentin that has been exposed. The second layer of teeth is called dentin. This area of the tooth is porous, soft, and dense with nerve fibers. Sensitivity is caused by dentin that has been exposed to stimulation. Usually, exposed tooth roots or damaged tooth enamel cause sensitive teeth. However, there are times when other problems, such as a cavity, a cracked or chipped tooth, a worn filling, or gum disease, can be responsible for dental discomfort.
Firstly, sensitivity can be prevented by avoiding carbonated or acidic drinks, bruxism habit( tooth grinding habit), and also avoid use of hard bristles tooth brush and do not brush the teeth in horizontal motion with more pressure. And avoid the cavity forming foods like sugary foods etc, and treat the cavity lesions as early as possible. Treatment for sensitivity could be use of desensitizing tooth paste, avoid cold foods and citrus foods, if in case of deep attired or abraded tooth, dental crowns are preferred.
To prevent any kind of oral or dental problem, one must take very good care of their oral hygiene. One should always brush their teeth with soft bristled toothbrush for two minutes at least twice a day. Floss at least once a day. Never brush your teeth too vigorously, it can lead to gum recession resulting in hypersensitivity in teeth. Avoid using abrasive toothpaste. Never grind your teeth, if it happens, consult your dentist for night mouth guard.
Several treatment options for sensitive tooth are, using desensitivity tooth paste. Tooth paste should be used by applying it to all the tooth and brushing should be done after 2-3 minutes. Other treatments options could be dental crown placements for attrited or eroded tooth. Avoiding sweet and sour foods and cold drinks in case of sensitive tooth.

Teeth sensitivity can occur as a result of consuming hot, cold, sweet, or acidic foods or beverages, or even breathing cold air. Sharp, sudden pain can penetrate deep into the oral nerve endings. When the enamel, the teeth's protective top layer, wears away, the teeth might become sensitive. When tooth enamel wears away, the dentin beneath becomes more porous, allowing liquids and gases to pass through more easily. Tooth sensitivity can be treated with fluoride toothpaste or desensitizing toothpaste, proper oral hygiene, and dental bonding. Oil pulling, capsaicin gel, salt water rinse, clove gel, and chewing guava leaves constitute the natural remedy for tooth sensitivity.
