Avoid alcohol as it is a good trigger for atrial fibrillation and may also interfere with the medication you are taking for your atrial fibrillation. Certain compounds in grapefruit can cause the concentration of atrial fibrillation medications in your bloodstream to spike. Excessive sodium levels in the body increase your blood volume, making it harder for the heart to pump and can trigger atrial fibrillation.
