Recurrence of symptoms is common. The attacks may last weeks or months, followed by a remission that can be from weeks to years. Those might be more or less severe. The course will vary with each patient.
The attacks will be milder initially and progress to more frequent attacks. With treatment, it can be effectively managed.
The prognosis depends on the underlying cause. Usually the condition responds to the treatment.
